The holidays are right around the corner! This can mean looking forward to family gatherings, fun and frolic. It can also mean a stressful time of preparation for your home and decorations. Getting started early can help you make the most of your time and energy.
Remove Unused Decorations
Prior to pulling out the totes and boxes filled with decorations, take some time to evaluate the items that you currently have on your counters and furniture surfaces. Next, as you go through your decorations, keep only those items that you love and hold meaning. Try not to hold onto those that are broken or no longer feel special.
Share the Spirit
This could be a great time to bag and box up those things that you want to give to specific family members and friends. Plan to take it to the next gathering you both plan to attend. This is a wonderful way to get these items out of the house without having to wait on someone else’s timeline.
Donate Winter Clothing
Coats, gloves, scarves and boots can take up a lot of closet space. When switching to your winter closet, take this opportunity to bag up items that do not fit or no longer inspire you. Donation agencies and homeless shelters are more than willing to take these items in the colder months.
Gift Experiences, Not Things
Do you dread finding that perfect gift for your loved ones? Rather than getting a gift, think about getting them an experience. My siblings and I plan a sibling night-out instead of buying gifts; the memories of these last a lot longer than a tangible object. They remind us that the holiday season is about spending time with loved ones, and not about the stuff we are given.
Cheers to a wonderful upcoming holiday season! For more tips, check out our list of items to declutter during the holiday season.
